Efforts to upgrade DeKalb County’s water infrastructure will move forward on February 2 with the start of the West College Avenue Water Main Replacement Project. The project involves replacing about 11,300 linear feet of ductile iron water pipe between South Candler Street and Emeril Drive.
According to county officials, the construction is scheduled to last for approximately 10 months, from February through December 2026, depending on weather conditions. The work is part of a larger $4.27 billion capital improvement program aimed at increasing capacity and improving service in DeKalb County’s watershed systems.
Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on major holidays. Residents can expect increased noise and traffic during these hours.
DeKalb County has also seen changes in its school system. Enrollment dropped by 2.2% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). During that period, county schools enrolled a total of 98,287 students (https://www.gadoe.org/), with white students representing the third largest ethnic group at 14% of the student body (https://www.gadoe.org/).
