The Tucker-Northlake Community Improvement District (CID) has formed a partnership with DeKalb County Commissioner Robert Patrick to expand police patrols in District 1. Commissioner Patrick allocated $100,000 to support the CID’s off-duty officer patrol program, which will now cover more residential and commercial areas in unincorporated DeKalb County.

The CID has funded off-duty DeKalb County officers to patrol the district since 2018. In response to requests from commercial property owners for increased patrols last year, the CID board approved an additional $100,000 from its reserves to double patrol coverage during summer months. The aim is to address crime and disturbances that tend to rise during this period.

“This partnership represents our ongoing commitment to support the good work of the DeKalb County Police Department by funding supplemental patrols,” said Matthew Lee, Executive Director of the Tucker-Northlake CID. “Ultimately, public safety is a shared responsibility that belongs to everyone. When we work together, it strengthens communities where people feel secure and local businesses can grow.”

Discussions between the CID and county leadership about increasing police presence led to this collaboration. Commissioner Patrick became interested in expanding the successful CID patrol model after learning about its impact. With unanimous approval from county authorities, he secured funding for the initiative.

“I believe in community partnerships that deliver real results for our DeKalb County community,” said Commissioner Robert Patrick. “The Tucker-Northlake CID has demonstrated an effective model for enhancing public safety, and I’m pleased to support expanding this program.”

Officers involved in the expanded program will provide weekly activity reports to both the CID and Commissioner Patrick’s office.

“The Tucker-Northlake CID continues to advocate for increased DeKalb County Police resources in the CID, and we are continuing to allocate our own funds to support improved safety locally,” Lee said. The expanded patrols will serve neighborhoods such as Evansdale, Embry Hills, Fleetwood Hills, North Briarcliff, Northcrest, Northlake, Pleasantdale, Sequoyah Woods, and nearby commercial zones.

“A strong and visible law enforcement presence helps deter criminal activity and sends a clear message that these are communities where people care and crime is not tolerated,” Patrick said.

Patrolling officers will distribute public safety information and encourage residents to report crimes or suspicious activities using emergency or non-emergency contact numbers.

DeKalb County schools enrolled 98,287 students during the 2022-23 school year https://www.gadoe.org/, marking a 2.2% decrease compared with the previous year https://www.gadoe.org/. White students represented 14% of total enrollment at that time https://www.gadoe.org/.
