The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced on March 10 the launch of Georgia Rehoused, a new pre-application process for communities seeking funding to reduce unsheltered homelessness. The initiative aims to streamline how local organizations apply for state and federal housing funds by using a single pre-application to determine eligibility for various grants.
Georgia Rehoused is designed to help DCA assess community needs and readiness before inviting full applications. The program will distribute available funding in three award cycles, with the first cycle’s pre-application period closing on April 7 at 5:00 p.m. According to DCA, this approach allows staff to advise applicants on compliance with basic requirements and guide them toward successful final applications.
Christopher Nunn, Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, said, “The Georgia Rehoused Grant is a new way to bring innovative and stable housing opportunities to Georgia. We are seeing creative housing solutions introduced across the country, and we know Georgia communities and local partners are ready to provide similar opportunities.”
To participate, organizations must submit their pre-applications electronically through the designated portal and ensure all required documentation is complete at submission. Only those who complete this step will be eligible for the competitive application round once it opens later in March. Eligibility criteria include forming a collaborative partnership led by a local government that represents community interests, demonstrating how proposed projects will reduce unsheltered homelessness locally, and being registered in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
Key dates for the first award cycle include the release of competitive application materials on March 31, closure of pre-applications on April 7, closure of competitive applications on May 11, anticipated award notifications during the week of June 6, and final commission approval on June 23.
