DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) has issued reminders to residents ahead of the runoff elections scheduled for Tuesday, December 2. The runoff will determine outcomes in three contests: Atlanta Board of Education Member, District 8 At Large; Atlanta City Council Member District 7; and Stonecrest City Council Member, District Post.

“We are reminding voters to finish this election cycle strong in DeKalb County and take part in the runoff elections in three contests,” said VRE Director Keisha L. Smith. “We encourage voters who are eligible to cast a ballot in the runoff election contests but who may not have voted during the early voting period or by absentee ballot, to make a plan to vote on Election Day.”

Some precincts within the Atlanta portion of DeKalb County will use municipal polling places specifically for this runoff. Impacted voters have been notified by mail. Only those residing within Atlanta city limits can participate in these races, while other eligible voters from Stonecrest’s District 5 will vote at their regular precincts. All DeKalb precincts except those in Atlanta will close at 7 p.m.; Atlanta precincts will remain open until 8 p.m.

Voters assigned to Cross Keys High and Emory South precincts should go to Briar Vista Elementary School at 1131 Briar Vista Terrace NE, Atlanta. Those from McNair High and Piney Grove/Terry Mill precincts should report to Burgess Elementary School at 480 Clifton St SE, Atlanta. Silver Lake precinct voters will also use Briar Vista Elementary School.

Residents are advised to confirm their voting location before heading out by visiting www.DeKalbVotes.com or checking the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page. Provisional ballots are available throughout polling hours for those at incorrect locations; however, if submitted before 5:00 p.m., an affidavit must be signed acknowledging that such ballots will not be counted unless cast after that time and before polls close.

Voters can verify their registration status using the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page. Individuals listed as “inactive” remain eligible to vote and casting a ballot will reactivate their status.

Absentee ballots must be received by the DeKalb VRE office at 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300, Decatur by 7 p.m. on Election Day; ballots left at polling sites on Election Day do not meet this requirement and will be rejected.

Those with physical disabilities or aged 75 years or older may bypass lines with assistance from poll workers upon arrival at polling locations.

Election results will be updated throughout Election Day evening on www.DeKalbVotes.com. Any questions or reports of suspicious activity should be directed immediately to poll managers.

Enrollment data shows that DeKalb County schools experienced a decline of about 2.2% during the 2022-23 school year compared with the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). In total, there were approximately 98,287 students enrolled across county schools during that period (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students accounted for roughly 14% of the student population during this time (https://www.gadoe.org/).
