DeKalb County Voter Registration & Elections (DeKalb VRE) is preparing for the Georgia House District 94 Special Election, which will allow eligible voters in the district to select their state legislative representative. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, with polling places open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Early voting will begin on February 16 and continue through March 6, taking place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There will also be early voting opportunities on Saturday, February 21, and Saturday, February 28, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as Sunday voting on February 22 and March 1 from noon to 5 p.m.
The DeKalb VRE office at 4380 Memorial Dr., Suite 300 in Decatur will host Logic and Accuracy testing for the election equipment on February 9 at 9 a.m.
Early voting locations include the DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections Office at 4380 Memorial Dr., Ste. 500 in Decatur; New Bethel A.M.E. Church at 8350 Rockbridge Rd., Lithonia; and Redan-Trotti Library at 1569 Wellborn Rd., Lithonia.
“Special elections operate on a condensed timeline, which makes planning ahead especially important,” said Keisha L. Smith, Executive Director of DeKalb VRE.
“We encourage voters to request absentee ballots as soon as possible or take advantage of early voting opportunities to ensure their participation in this election.”
Voters who intend to vote by mail are encouraged to request absentee ballots now until February 27. Applications can be submitted online, by mail, fax, or in person following Georgia law. Ballots must be received by the specified deadline to be counted. More information about absentee voting procedures is available at www.dekalbvotes.com.
Meanwhile, data shows that enrollment in DeKalb County schools declined by about two percent during the most recent school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). In total, there were over ninety-eight thousand students enrolled in county schools during the same period (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students made up fourteen percent of the student body last year (https://www.gadoe.org/).
