DeKalb County will open several warming centers from Monday, January 26, through Friday, January 30, 2026, in response to predicted freezing temperatures and hazardous wind chills. The centers will be available for individuals seeking shelter during this period.
The following locations will be operational for the duration of the activation: Exchange Park Intergenerational Center in Decatur, Frontline Response International in Atlanta, St. Vincent de Paul in Chamblee (night only), and Tobie Grant Recreation Center in Scottdale.
Transportation to the warming centers will originate from Frontline Response Headquarters at 2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta. Routes begin at 6:00 p.m., with initial pickups completed by 7:30 p.m. Final sweep operations will run until all routes conclude at 10:00 p.m.
Four transportation routes are scheduled to cover North DeKalb/Chamblee-Tucker, Central/Decatur/Emory, East/Stone Mountain/Candler, and South Central/Memorial Dr/Wesley Chapel areas. Specific pickup times and locations are listed for each route.
Frontline Response International is contracted by DeKalb County to assist individuals during extreme weather events. Individuals can also arrive directly at Frontline HQ beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday for help with warming center placement and additional services.
Early entry access is available daily at noon starting Tuesday, January 27 through January 30 at Frontline Response Headquarters.

Recent data shows that enrollment at DeKalb County schools decreased by 2.2% in the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). The total number of students enrolled was 98,287 during that period (https://www.gadoe.org/). White students made up 14% of the county’s student body in the same school year (https://www.gadoe.org/).
