DeKalb County will open several warming centers from December 29 to December 31 due to forecasted freezing temperatures and hazardous wind chills. The county announced that these centers will be available starting at 6:30 p.m. each day.
The following locations will operate as warming centers: Exchange Park Intergenerational Center in Decatur (open 24 hours), Frontline Response International in Atlanta (open 24 hours), St. Vincent de Paul in Chamblee, and Mason Mill Recreation Center in Decatur.
Transportation to the warming centers is being coordinated by Frontline Response International, which is contracted by DeKalb County to assist individuals during extreme weather conditions. All transportation routes begin at Frontline Response Headquarters at 2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta, with initial pickups scheduled for completion by 7:30 p.m. Final sweeps will continue until 10 p.m., when service ends for the night.
Individuals may also go directly to Frontline HQ beginning at noon on Monday, December 29 for assistance with placement and other services. Walk-in access is available at this location throughout the activation period.
