DeKalb County opens warming centers amid forecasted freezing temperatures

DeKalb County will open several warming centers from Sunday, January 11, through Monday, January 12, 2026, in response to predicted freezing temperatures and hazardous wind chills. The centers are intended to provide shelter for individuals in need during the extreme weather.

The following locations will serve as warming centers: Exchange Park Intergenerational Center at 2771 Columbia Dr., Decatur; Frontline Response International at 2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta; St. Vincent de Paul at 2050-C Chamblee Tucker Rd, Chamblee; and Mason Mill Recreation Center at 1340 McConnell Dr, Decatur.

Transportation services will be available starting from Frontline Response Headquarters. Initial pickups on all routes are scheduled to finish by 7:30 p.m., with final sweeps continuing until 10 p.m. The transportation routes cover North DeKalb/Chamblee-Tucker, Central/Decatur/Emory, East/Stone Mountain/Candler, and South Central/Memorial Dr/Wesley Chapel areas. Pickups begin as early as 6:05 p.m. at designated locations such as North DeKalb Senior Center and East Lake MARTA Station.

Frontline Response International is contracted by DeKalb County to assist individuals needing shelter during severe weather conditions. People can arrive directly at Frontline HQ starting at noon on Sunday for assistance with placement and additional services.

DeKalb County schools reported a decrease in enrollment of 2.2% for the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). The district enrolled a total of 98,287 students during that period (https://www.gadoe.org/), with White students making up approximately 14% of the student body (https://www.gadoe.org/).
