DeKalb County will open several warming centers from Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 16, in response to predicted freezing temperatures and hazardous wind chills. The centers are intended to provide shelter for individuals in need during the cold weather.
The following locations will serve as overnight warming centers from January 14 to January 16: Exchange Park Intergenerational Center at 2771 Columbia Dr., Decatur; Frontline Response International at 2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta; St. Vincent de Paul at 2050-C Chamblee Tucker Rd, Chamblee; and Mason Mill Recreation Center at 1340 McConnell Dr, Decatur.
On Thursday and Friday (January 15-16), two of these sites—Frontline Response International and Exchange Park Intergenerational Center—will remain open for a full 24-hour activation period.
Transportation services are available for those seeking shelter. All routes originate from Frontline Response Headquarters (2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta) with initial pickups scheduled to be completed by 7:30 p.m. Final sweeps continue until 10 p.m., ending promptly at that time. Individuals may also arrive directly at Frontline HQ starting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The transportation schedule covers four main routes throughout the county, stopping at locations such as North DeKalb Senior Center, St. Vincent de Paul, Chamblee Library, Walmart stores in Chamblee and Stone Mountain, Tucker First United Methodist Church, Brookhaven MARTA Station, East Lake MARTA Station, Decatur Library, Emory Decatur Hospital, Mason Mill Recreation Center, Candler Rd MARTA station, Clifton Springs Mental Health Center, Hairston Crossing Library, Memorial Dr & Columbia Dr Intersection, South DeKalb Mall, QT on Wesley Chapel/Snapfinger Rd., Wesley Chapel Shopping Plaza Bus Stop and Golden Door Warming Center.
Frontline Response International is contracted by DeKalb County to assist individuals during extreme weather events. Walk-in access is available beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Frontline HQ.
