Efforts to upgrade DeKalb County’s water infrastructure will continue with the start of the Grant Drive Water Main Replacement Project on February 2. The project involves replacing 6,600 linear feet of aging pipelines and is expected to take about seven months, from February to August 2026, unless weather causes delays.

This initiative is part of a larger $4.27 billion capital improvement program aimed at enhancing the capacity and service of watershed systems in DeKalb County. Construction work will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays. Residents can expect increased noise and traffic during these hours.

A virtual community meeting for more information about the project is scheduled for Tuesday, January 27 at 6:30 p.m., accessible via Zoom at https://dekalbcountyga.zoom.us/j/84587183962. Additional details are available by calling the DWM Project Information Line at 1-800-986-1108 or emailing projectinfo@dekalbcountyga.gov.

Meanwhile, DeKalb County schools have experienced a decrease in enrollment by 2.2% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). The total student population was reported as 98,287 for that period (https://www.gadoe.org/), with white students comprising about 14% of enrolled students (https://www.gadoe.org/).
