DeKalb County officials will hold a drive-thru food distribution event on Saturday, February 7, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The initiative is led by CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners as part of ongoing efforts to address food insecurity in the community.

“Food insecurity remains a nationwide challenge,” said CEO Cochran-Johnson. “This work is only possible through collaboration. With the support of our Board of Commissioners, faith leaders, volunteers, and community partners, we are meeting families where they are and delivering help when it matters most.”

The county will distribute 4,000 boxes containing fresh produce and nonperishable food items at six sites across DeKalb County. Locations include Berean Christian Church in Stone Mountain; Beulah Missionary Baptist Church and New Life Church in Decatur; Saint Phillip AME Church and Plaza Fiesta in Atlanta; and Rehoboth Baptist Church in Tucker. Distribution will continue while supplies last. No registration is required, but participation is limited to DeKalb County residents.

This event is part of broader county efforts such as the DeKalb Food Resilience Initiative, which aims to provide sustainable food access through partnerships and programs designed to strengthen community resilience.

Recent data from the Georgia Department of Education shows that enrollment at DeKalb County schools declined by 2.2% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year (https://www.gadoe.org/). In that period, schools enrolled a total of 98,287 students (https://www.gadoe.org/). Black students represented the largest group at 55.7%, followed by Hispanic students at 20.1% (https://www.gadoe.org/), white students at 14% (https://www.gadoe.org/), and multiracial students were the least represented at 3.3% (https://www.gadoe.org/).

DeKalb County officials state they remain focused on building a stronger and healthier community for all residents.
