The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that Dr. Ralph Abraham has resigned from his position as Principal Deputy Director, effective immediately.
During his tenure, Dr. Abraham worked closely with career staff and public health partners to enhance national preparedness and improve emergency response efforts. According to the CDC, he provided clear leadership and discipline in advancing the agency’s mission to protect the health and safety of Americans.
Dr. Abraham cited unforeseen family obligations as the reason for his decision to step down.
“It has been an honor to serve alongside the dedicated public health professionals at the CDC and to support the agency’s critical mission,” Dr. Abraham said.
CDC leadership expressed gratitude for Dr. Abraham’s service and contributions to both the agency and the nation.
The CDC continues its work by providing timely information, identifying and responding quickly to diseases, and supporting local initiatives across communities in the United States. The agency focuses on protecting lives, strengthening national security, and supporting economic stability through science-driven public health research and data innovation.
